As we bid farewell to the year 2024, we are taking a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we have made in the outgoing year.
SELL Foundation Nigeria is committed to empowering communities through peace building, sustainable livelihoods and environmental conservations. Here are some highlights from our 2024 activities.
ADVOCACY VISIT: SELL Team conducted advocacy visits to different stakeholders in some States in the North East and Plateau State. The purpose of the visits is to continue to advocate for policy reforms where necessary, establish and also strengthen the already existing relationships.
TRAININGS: SELL Foundation Nigeria through the support of its donors (Misean Cara, St. Patrick’s Missionary society) conducted trainings on the following thematic areas:
- Training on Policy Influence and implementation: In an effort to bridge the gap between policy influence and implementation, SELL Foundation Nigeria conducted training for its volunteers, members of Civil Society Organization, Community youth/Religious groups in Jalingo, Jos, Yola, Maiduguri and Bauchi.
- Training on Child Safeguarding: Recognizing the critical role that women play in the care and protection of Children, SELL trained women on Child safeguarding and Protection in Jalingo, Yola, Maiduguri and Bauchi States respectively.
- Training on Climate smart agriculture, Animal/Crop production: SELL conducted trainings for local farmers and SELL volunteers on modern use of technology and how to rear and preserve crops
- Training on Briquettes production: SELL trained some women and SELL volunteers on briquettes production which will serve as alternative source of cooking and means of income to the family
- Training on Family Cohesion: As a means of bringing families together and to also promote equity among couples, SELL conducted training for selected couples in Yola, Shendam and Yobe states respectively.
DISTRIBUTION OF SOLAR LANTERNS, WASTE BINS, TREE SEEDLINGS, SMALL RUMINANT ANIMAL AND CHARCOAL STOVE: As a means of promoting care for sustainable environment, SELL Nigeria distributed the above listed items to its beneficiaries, selected households, schools and other public places to promote sustainable cooking practices and care for the Environment.
STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT: In our efforts to promote safe and sustainable environment, SELL Foundation Nigeria organized stakeholder’s engagement in Yola on environmental Policies and practices. The engagement aimed to provide a platform for the stakeholders to discuss and evaluate environmental issues and policies in Adamawa state with the intention of identifying areas that require improvement and recommend practical actions
WORKSHOPS IN SELL COMMUNITIES: SELL Nigeria continues to reach out to many through the SELL volunteers in their communities. The SELL volunteers across the SELL communities in the North East and Plateau conducted workshops in different thematic areas which includes: Trauma and sexual abuse, Self awareness, Leadership, Child safeguarding, Entrepreneurship among others in their respective communities
SCHOOL PROGRAMMES/SENSITIZATION: Through the support of our sponsors, SELL volunteers in Yola conducted a transformative school programme for selected schools in Yola, Adamawa State. The exercise aimed to promote positive behaviour, social responsibility and environmental consciousness among students. Similarly, our volunteers in Jalingo, Bauchi and Pankshin conducted awareness on climate change, effect of deforestation and also commemorate the African child day and environmental world day in some selected schools in Pankshin and Jalingo.
COMMUNITY RISK ASSESSMENT: In our effort to promote safe and healthy environment, SELL conducted a community mapping exercise at a new lowcost ward in Shendam local government of plateau state and at New Jerusalem ward in Yobe state.
The initiatives aimed to assess environmental risk factors in the areas. Through this exercise, we worked closely with the community members to identify risks and develop actionable recommendations for future improvements in environmental safety and resilience.
ANNUAL GENERAL REFLECTION: SELL Foundation Nigeria celebrated its 11th Annual General Reflection in Jalingo, Taraba State with the theme: Empowering Communities for Climate Resilience. The AGR brought together participants from across the north East and Plateau States, Nigeria. It provided them with the opportunity to discuss challenges and chart the way forward.
MONITORING/OVERSIGHT VISIT: As part of our efforts to follow up on project impacts, SELL conducted monitoring visits to all SELL communities across the North East and Plateau States, Nigeria. In the same vein, we received representatives of the St. Patrick’s Missionary Society of West Africa for an oversight visits in our office in Bauchi.
CONCLUSION: As the year comes to an end, we thank God for his providence in the outgoing year and beyond. We are grateful for the support from our donors, partners, SELL volunteers and our sister Organizations; SELL Malawi and SELL Ghana, the year 2024 wouldn’t have been complete without your support. Together, let’s continue to work towards a brighter future.
