A team of SELL Resource persons and community volunteers on Monday, 16th November, 2020 paid an advocacy visit to Chief Kefas Simon Adamson the Village Head of Maryam Daji in Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State. The purpose of the visit is to complement the effort of the Village head and his council in fostering peace and development as well as highlight possible areas of collaborations towards peace building.

In his welcoming remarks, the Village Head, Chief Kefas Simon thanked the SELL team for taking out time to pay him visit, stating that it was by all means a move in the right direction as the community is in need of initiatives that promote peace. He stated that the traditional council in collaboration with some elites are working on ensuring that the people who were displaced as a result of the ethno-religious crisis that engulfed the community return back to the community. He also highlighted the challenges currently being faced by the community and the challenges the youths encounter, adding that, the council is doing its best to encourage youths in the area to receive training in different skills. He stated that some women and youths are being selected and trained on hands-on skills for their self development.

He used the medium to appreciate the founders of the SELL programme for their thoughtfulness and initiative in empowering the young people through their formative and transformative programme and also promised to mobilize more young people within his kingdom to benefit from the programme as well as support the SELL volunteers in his community in carrying out their activities.

While responding, Mr. Beji Jibe the SELL team leader appreciated the village head and his council for responding to our calls and for accepting to host the team despite short notice. He assured the Council of SELL foundation’s willingness to work with them to entrench lasting peace in the community.
