SELL PAYS ADVOCACY VISIT TO MINISTRY OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION IN TARABA STATE

SELL Resource team alongside SELL community volunteers in Jalingo paid advocacy visits to the Commissioner Ministry of social welfare in his office as well office of the National Human Right Commission on Monday, 30th November, 2020 at Jalingo, Taraba state.

The purpose of the visits was to seek areas of collaborations and to also consolidate on their efforts in the protection of Children, Human Rights, Peace and Reconciliation as well the welfare of the people in the State.

Mr. Henry Aleng, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare who stood in for the commissioner thanked and applauded the Foundation for taking out time to visit the Ministry. He stated that the ministry is committed to the protection of rights and welfare of the vulnerable individuals, families and communities and its goal is to promote social justice and improve wellbeing of the people through an integrated and well coordinated system.

Alhaji Abdulahi Gidado Abbare (Secretary to the Ministry) applauded the Foundation for finding time to pay them a courtesy visit, he stated that the ministry has two different departments, the rehabilitation and welfare department; therefore, they are willing to collaborate with the Foundation to enhanced their mandate of improving social Justice and wellbeing of humanity for sustainable development.

Similarly, the team visited office of the National Human Right Commission in Jalingo, Mr. Garba Abbas who represented the state Chairman commended the Foundation in its effort towards creating awareness and making impacts in the lives of young adults in North east and Plateau especially in the aspects of defending human rights, Child protection and Sexual and Gender Based Violence. He stated that since the outbreak of Corona virus pandemic, the commission has recorded a high number of rape/domestic violence cases. He counts it a privilege that the commission have opportunity to be identified by SELL Foundation to form a working synergy as they work towards combating issues of abuse within the community.  He added that collaboration is a key mandate in the commission; therefore, the Commission is ready to form a working relationship with SELL Foundation.
