A Team of three Resource Team members alongside SELL Volunteers in Jos undertook advocacy visits to Centre for Actions for Peace and Development (CCAPAD), National Human Rights Commission, and Unity FM in Jos on Monday 8th March, 2021 to share the work of SELL foundation, learn and seek areas of collaborations.

CCAPAD was the first point of contact where the director of the organization received the team and assured SELL of positive synergy. He applauded the foundation for her contribution in the areas of Peace building and community development.  The programme Manager of CCAPAD introduced the team through their achievements from date of inception in 2005 till date. This ranged from deradicalization of radicalized minds, countering violence radicalization in Youths and Farmers/ Herders conflict through the concept of peace clubs for violent for selected communities in Jos.

Responding, Beji Jibe leader of the delegation assured CCAPAD on partnership in the areas of exchange programmes and capacity Building especially with SELL Volunteers in Jos. In the end both organizations agreed to work together in Building peaceful structures.

Thereafter, the team proceeded to the National Human Rights Commission Jos office where they were received by the Assistant Director, Mrs. Ronke Moody.  Beji introduced members of the Team and highlighted the possible areas of collaborations with the commission as thus; Child safe guarding and protection as well as mitigating Gender based violence and upholding the rights of citizens.

Mrs Ronke expressed delight that SELL foundation shares similar thematic areas with the commission. She said that the mandate of the commission is the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights of citizens and vulnerable groups. She assured the Foundation that the commission’s doors are open to citizens in addressing cases of human rights violation by their team of experienced lawyers who are paid to offer free services to the public as a “right denied is a challenge to humanity.”

The team again proceeded to Unity FM in Jos and met with the General Manager, Hajiya Larai Baba and her management team. The emphasis of the advocacy visit was on Peace building and community cohesion. SELL representative affirmed their work in promoting peace through their Radio/TV programmes. The general manager responded that, the Radio and Television stations were established to propagate the message of peace in the aftermath of the crisis that engulfed Plateau State. She added that the media is a necessary medium in spreading the message of peace to the public. She expresses the willingness of Unity FM and Television to cover the programmes of SELL Foundation to promote peace building as they await a proposal that will cement this relationship.  In the end Beji thanked them and encouraged them to keep up the good works.

Other stakeholders visited included: Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) and the National/provincial of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) chaplain Rev. Fr. Denis Kaye.
