IMPACT STORIES FROM SELL BENEFICIARIES

My name is Yakubu Mohammed Lawan. I have a lot of stories to share with you concerning how the training from SELL foundation has impacted my life, the life of my family and my community in jalingo. When we did the training on conflict resolution, and the session that helped us to analyze the conflict trends in Jalingo was going on, I immediately nursed an idea in my mind. I discovered that most of the young people who are involved in criminality are doing so mostly because they are unemployed and idle. I therefore felt that engaging young people in useful ventures will help to reduce the rate at which these young people commit crimes. I decided that since I am a professional horticulturist, I established an organization(Volunteer Network of Concerned Youths) with focus on tree planting. Since the establishment of the organization, we have donated 70 seedlings during world environment day and I am currently raising seeds to seedlings to be distributed and planted in religious centers, schools and other public places in Taraba as a way of advancing peace. Over 20 young people who were on the streets, causing nuisance are now being able to raise seeds to seedlings which they can then use it for economic gains. My name is Amina Auwal. I am a member of the Muslim Council in Adamawa State. I also work with the Women Working Group on Peace Building. To be honest since I met SELL foundation, I have had positive change in my life, that cannot be denied. I have met so many good people in SELL foundation. I engage differently with my Christian sisters and brothers. The SELL foundation has lifted my spirit on Child safeguarding, I (now) treat the child differently. I feel the pain of a child since my encounter with SELL foundation. Thank you, thanks to (for) that. I heard the word Child safeguarding the first time in SELL foundation and I can tell you that it has yield a positive change in my life. I am more like a consultant in my community now because every now and then, I am invited by groups and organizations to speak on issues that have to do with Children and gender related issues. SELL made that possible because the issues I talk about with authority are issues that i learned during the trainings by SELL. I have carried out awareness campaigns through paper presentations and radio awareness to ensure that the practice of faith-based schooling system is properly checked and regulated by the Government and relevant authorities so that they do not become breeding grounds for religious extremism. I have mobilized and bought sanitary pads which I distributed free of charge to female Students in the school of Islamic Studies where I observed that girls and women in their menstrual period missed school because they lack sanitary pads. These are my modest contributions to the community inspired by SELL. (Amina Auwal, Yola, Adamawa State)

Think and Choose, I am Rejoice Philemon  from Adamawa State, a volunteer with SELL, the organizational motto is (THINK and CHOSE). I thank God for giving me the privilege to be part of the organization, I learned from  this organization how to think and relate with people I’m living within my community, the people in turn are benefiting from me from the experience I acquired.  SELL foundation has brought changes in our community especially on how to relate and work with people, it has promoted love, peace and forgiveness among the people. SELL have created awareness among the people in our community on the right of children, it has also helped me to see the importance of a child more than I did before.  I will be happy to see the organization make more impact in our community and the world at large. If we raise children and youth with love and compassionate, embrace peace and think positively the future will be better because God has brought this organization through people with wisdom and good vision to safeguard children, youth and the entire community on how to relate with each other.  I sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to express how I feel about the organization. I have learned a lot and my community is better off for it. (Rejoice Philemon SELL Volunteer, Yola)
